With solar power generating more than $5 billion a year, the US government is set to expand its solar power program in a big way.The National Solar Initiative (NSI), which is aimed at developing new technologies that will reduce the cost of energy and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, is expected to generate $2.6 billion this year. While the total program is expected be worth $9.3 billion, that's ju...
Malzabad, Pakistan (AP) The world’s largest solar power plant, which has been generating power at the Malzazar dam for more than a decade, is expected to start commercial operations in 2021.
Malzazar Power, which opened its first commercial power plant in 2019, is the country’s largest and fastest-growing solar power project with a total of 12,000 megawatts of capacity.
The plant, located near the city of Malzhar, will generate about half of Pakistan’s electricity.
The plant is expected be a hit with local residents, who have been using the electricity to power their homes, but the government is keeping its distance from the project.
Malzakars government says the project is only for the benefit of the people.
The state-run utility said the electricity generated by the project will be used for the construction of a new dam in the area, which is under the jurisdiction of the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.
Malazakars National Power Corporation has said the power generated by Malzagar Dam will be sold for electricity to the people in the country.
“The project has been approved by the government and is on track to go live within the next few years,” said an official of the agency, who declined to be named.
Malazakar Power will be able to sell electricity from the dam, which sits on an island in the middle of the Arabian Sea.
