Cork City Council says it has spent $100m on building products for the city, but the majority of them haven’t yet been sold to residents.
Lansing Mayor Brian Paddick said the council had received bids for the building products from builders in Canada and the US.
“It’s been a bit of a challenge to get these products delivered to the city.
The council will work with the builders on the delivery of these products,” Mr Paddicky said.
We have been able to provide a lot of support to the people of Cork, he said.
“We’re working to deliver these products in a way that supports the community, that we are able to do that.”
Cork is hoping to buy some products from the US as well, he added.
Mr Paddicker said Cork had “got some great products that we can use for the future”.
The building materials are being used to create Cork City’s new building, a five-storey tower that will be built on land that was part of the old Cork city centre.
CORK CITY LANDLORD: Mr Peart said the Cork City Landlord had agreed to sell some of the building materials to the council.
“We are currently in negotiations with the Cork Landlord on the terms and conditions of sale,” he said in a statement.
If the council were to sell the building material, it would “in no way affect” Cork City residents’ rights to use the building.
